Wellness Exams
At Waterfront Animal Hospital, we recommend that all of our patients receive annual examinations. This helps us to gather information about your pet’s condition and determine a baseline of health for them. We also use these examinations to help us identify underlying health conditions or developing health problems, sometimes before symptoms begin to show. For pets that have ongoing health conditions, take regular medications, or are a senior pet over the age of six, we recommend twice annual health checks.
Our complete physical exams include a full-body inspection that checks the eyes, ears, mouth, chest, abdomen, lymph nodes, and skin, including a flea check. We often perform fecal examinations at this time as well. For senior pets, we may recommend more advanced diagnostics including blood tests and urinalysis.
Spay & Neuter
Spaying and neutering all pets that are not going to be used for breeding is a very important pet care step. We recommend all puppies and kittens be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age as it helps offset a number of potential health and behavioral problems. For females, it is important to spay before the first heat cycle.
Spaying female dogs helps to minimize the possibility of mammary tumors or cancer, and it eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian conditions. It of course eliminates the threat of unwanted pregnancy, as well as the mess of a heat cycle.
Neutering male dogs helps to minimize the possibility of prostate tumors or cancer, and it eliminates the threat of testicular cancer. It can also help to encourage calmer and more docile behaviors, limit aggression, and minimize the desire to wander.
Vaccinations
We provide custom vaccination plans at Waterfront Animal Hospital, prescribing vaccinations based on the needs and lifestyle of the individual pet. We offer the following vaccines for cats and dogs:
-
DHLPP
-
Bordetella
-
Rabies
-
FVRCP
-
FeLV
It is important to note that puppies and kittens must follow the same basic vaccinations schedule to establish their lifetime of preventive care.
Surgery
The veterinarian and technicians at Waterfront Animal Hospital provide complete monitoring services during each and every surgical procedure. Our surgeries include spay and neuter, mass removals, dentals, laceration repairs and other soft tissue surgeries.
PetLink Microchips
We now offer a microchipping service. Microchipping is the only unique, unalterable, tamper-proof, permanent form of identification. Microchipping your pet is no more painful than any other vaccine or injection; it's sort of like what getting a flu shot feels like to us. Microchipping can be done at any time because is does not require anesthesia and only takes seconds. Waterfront Animal Hospital does all the work for you. We place the microchip and also register your chip for you. This microchip comes with a LIFETIME registration.
Dental Care
At Waterfront Animal Hospital, pet dental care is a big concern for us. Our team understands that a healthy oral condition is a precursor to overall physical health. We complete basic dental checks during our annual and biannual physical examinations, often prescribing professional cleanings as a result of our findings.
Our professional cleanings are all completed under anesthesia, using full surgical monitoring for your pet’s safety. A professional cleaning consists of anesthesia, a before and after photo of your pet’s teeth, scaling of the teeth, a final polish, and extractions if necessary.
We recommend regular at-home dental care to keep your pet’s mouth clean and healthy, and our team members can educate you on proper oral care techniques.
Alternative Medicine Services at Waterfront Animal Hospital
At Waterfront Animal Hospital, Dr. Thomas and our dedicated team are committed to supporting the overall health and wellness of your pets through both conventional and complementary therapies. In addition to traditional veterinary care, we are proud to offer alternative medicine services, including Red Light Laser Therapy and Chiropractic Care (beginning September 2026).
Red Light Laser Therapy
Red light therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT), is a non-invasive treatment that uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular function and promote healing. This therapy can provide numerous benefits for pets, including:
-
Pain relief – Reduces inflammation and alleviates chronic or acute pain, particularly in joints and muscles.
-
Accelerated healing – Supports tissue repair and speeds recovery from injuries, post-surgical wounds, or dermatological conditions.
-
Improved circulation – Enhances blood flow to targeted areas, promoting overall tissue health.
-
Enhanced mobility – Assists pets suffering from arthritis or musculoskeletal discomfort in regaining comfort and movement.
Chiropractic Care
Starting September 2026, we will offer veterinary chiropractic care, a holistic approach to maintaining musculoskeletal health. Chiropractic adjustments help restore proper alignment and function of the spine and joints, which can improve nerve signaling, reduce pain, and enhance overall well-being. Benefits for pets include:
-
Pain management – Eases discomfort associated with arthritis, hip dysplasia, or spinal misalignments.
-
Improved mobility and flexibility – Helps pets move more comfortably and maintain an active lifestyle.
-
Support for chronic conditions – Complements conventional therapies for pets with musculoskeletal or neurological issues.
-
Preventative care – Promotes long-term musculoskeletal health and can prevent future injuries.
At Waterfront Animal Hospital, our goal is to provide a comprehensive, integrative approach to veterinary care. By combining traditional medicine with these evidence-based alternative therapies, we help pets live healthier, happier lives.
We do take referrals from other veterinarians for chiropractic and laser therapy care. We are very pro-corporative care with other veterinarians to provide the best care we can for our pets.
